There wasn’t much North Sanpete could do against Grantsville on Friday as the Cowboys racked up five goals in the shutout home win.

“We’ve been working real hard lately on shifting the point of attack,” said Grantsville head coach Travis Lowry. “I think it’s because quicker passes are linking up more.”

Striker Gavin Holt scored twice in the first half. The first he earned by beating the defense up the right side with the dribble in about the 15th minute and pushed the ball left past the keeper from the right side of the 18-yard box.

The second came about 10 minutes later when he hit the ball from wide right. North Sanpete’s keeper got a pair of gloves on the ball, but only managed to tip the ball up slightly and it found its way into the net on the right side.

“I’m proud of him,” Lowry said of Holt. “He’s a little dynamo for us.”

Benton Tripp, Jared Roberts and Matt Whiting also earned goals in the win.

“I loved the way my midfield played,” Lowry said. “My wingers, and then my centers… They did awesome, they controlled the game.”

Grantsville’s defense played phenomenally the entire game and only allowed three shots.

Cowboy midfielder Dakoda Baessler said his back line shut North Sanpete down offensively.

“They were doing a lot of kick-and-run,” he said. “It was a lot of up in the airs, and our two center defenders are really tall and really good in the air — they’re really good with their heads.”

Goalkeeper Parker May was credited with the shutout, his second of the season.

“He’s always killing it,” Baessler said of May. “He’s probably one of the best keepers in the state, honestly.”

The win brings Grantsville to 2-1 this season, and the Cowboys will next face Bear River on Tuesday to begin the Region 11 season on the road.
