The unique lakeside setting adds a distinctive flavor to the Stansbury Days celebration slated for this weekend.
Brenda Spearman, president of the Stansbury Park Community Association that organized the event, said the lake-centric activities at the celebration in Stansbury Park make it a different experience for community residents and anyone in Tooele County that wants to attend.
“It’s such a unique setting with the lake,” she said.
There won’t be many changes from past editions of Stansbury Days, but the entertainment and food vendors will have extended hours, until 7 p.m. In the past, the event usually ended around 4 or 5 p.m., though there wasn’t a hard stop time, Spearman said.
Festivities kick off Friday evening, with the kid’s triathlon at the Stansbury Park Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. and Food Truck Friday getting underway in the parking lot by the baseball fields around 6 p.m. The race and food trucks will be followed by a showing of Disney’s “Big Hero 6” at 9 p.m. on the lake front.
All of the events Friday are free and open to anyone, Spearman said. Movie goers are encouraged to bring blankets or low chairs since they’ll be watching from the lawn.
The Stansbury Days Triathlon starts early the next day at 6 a.m. and starts with the swim leg behind the clubhouse. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. and head down Lakeside Drive.
Spearman said the midway games, bounce houses, entertainment and vendors will make for a carnival atmosphere near the clubhouse. The midway games, bounce houses, bubble ball rentals and kayak rentals all cost extra, and tickets and wristbands can be purchased at the event.
There will also be a rock wall, chalk art and a car show, Spearman said. Karaoke will start later in the evening at 7 p.m.; attendees should sign up with the DJ if they wish to sing.
The pool opens at 12:30 p.m. for free swimming until 6 p.m. At 1 p.m., the sailboat regatta will be held in the lake, followed by the cardboard boat race at 1:30 p.m.
Festivities will be capped with fireworks at dusk and a star party at the Stansbury Park Observatory.
“We’re excited,” Spearman said. “It’s going to be a fun weekend.”
