Wall of fame

Tooele High School is accepting applications for the Annual Athletic Wall of Fame Induction Ceremony, to be held Sept. 18. Applicants must have graduated from THS at least 10 years ago. Only individuals (not teams) will be considered for the Wall of Fame. Email Athletic Director Catham Beer at cbeer@tooeleschools.org for an application or pick one up at Tooele High School (301 W. Vine St. Tooele, UT 84074). Application is due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 4.

Tooele soccer vs. Taylorsville

Senior forward Alle McReavy scored midway through the first half to take a 1-nill advantage over Taylorsville on Friday, but the Warriors scored twice to take the lead before junior keeper Trista Fackrell converted a penalty kick to equalize in the 86th minute. Head coach Stephen Duggan said Tooele “outshot and outplayed them, just couldn’t capitalize.” The draw puts Tooele’s record at 2-2-1.

Grantsville soccer at Juab

The Cowboys picked up their first win of the season on Thursday with a 3-1 victory over Juab. “We had tons of shots, I think we had 20 to their four,” said head coach Travis Lowry. Sophomore attacking midfielder Ashley Wangsgard scored the go-ahead goal, netting a goal in each half. Senior midfielder Kelsey Haycock added a third goal in the second half. Lowry said the committment the upperclassmen have shown during some rough seasons is starting to pay off. “They’re just excited and have been working really hard,” he said. Grantsville is 1-0 and will face Summit Academy on the road Friday before returning home to play Layton Christian on Sept. 3.

Tooele volleyball at Waterford

The Buffaloes rolled over Waterford in four sets on Thursday to give Tooele its second win of the season. Senior middle blocker Sydnee Simmons led the Buffs with 15 kills, and junior outside hitter Raegen Root chipped in another 11 with 19 attempts. Senior opposite side hitter Ketrah Dekanich served eight aces. Senior middle blocker Abbie Vangrimbergen had six total blocks. Senior libero Elisa Erekson had 10 digs. Senior setter Daisy Brown had 33 sets. The win brings Tooele to 2-0. The Buffaloes faced Kearns on Tuesday, but the game hadn’t been completed as of press time. Tooele will next face Payson on the road on Thursday.

Grantsville volleyball at Copper Hills

The Cowboys suffered a 3-0 loss to the Grizzlies on Thursday in the season opener. Grantsville faced Waterford on the road Tuesday, but the match was not complete as of press time. The Cowboys will next play at Hillcrest on Thursday.

Stansbury soccer vs. Dixie

Junior Katrina Clausing and senior Amber Spaulding each had first-half goals in Stansbury’s 2-1 win over Dixie on Friday. Senior Erin Jones and sophomore Kendall Bell both had assists. The Stallions improved to 3-0-1 with the win and played Morgan on Tuesday, but the game hadn’t been completed as of press time. Stansbury will play North Sanpete on Friday at home.
