A two-vehicle accident at an unregulated intersection on 600 North in Tooele City left one vehicle rolled onto its side and its driver with minor injuries.

The Tooele County Aging and Adult Services Meals on Wheels delivery truck was heading eastbound on 600 North, when it was struck in the rear by a white van heading northbound on 680 West around 11:30 a.m., according to the Tooele City Police Department.

The collision caused the truck to roll, coming to rest on the driver’s side of the vehicle just east of the intersection. The white van sustained minor damage from the accident.

The Tooele City Fire Department and police responded to the accident, which closed a small section of the street while awaiting a tow truck and reviewing the scene. The driver of the Meals on Wheels truck was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Citations for failure to yield and driving without insurance were issued to the driver of the white van that caused the accident, Tooele City police said.

Tooele resident Gavin Cranney lives at the intersection of 680 West and 600 North and said he was inside the home when he heard the accident. He said a neighbor brought a pry bar to help free the driver of the Meals on Wheels truck.

According to Cranney, there have been several other accidents near that intersection, which has no stop or yield signs or road markings. He said he and his neighbors have previously requested a stop sign on 680 West to improve traffic flow.

“It’s ridiculous the number of times this has to happen before they do something about it,” Cranney said.

Utah state law requires vehicles yield the right-of-way to another vehicle that has already entered an unregulated intersection. If two vehicles approach an uncontrolled intersection at approximately the same time, the vehicle to the right has the right-of-way, similar to a four-way stop.
