Five people were injured in a rollover accident while on the way to Wendover last Friday night.

An Acura TL heading westbound on Interstate 80 was in the area of milepost 28 at about 1:25 a.m. when the vehicle began to drift to the left side of the lane, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The car had five passengers, including three men and two women.

As the car drifted to the median, the driver over-corrected by jerking the car in the opposite direction, UHP said. Due to the violent maneuver, the vehicle rotated onto its right side and slid down the right shoulder of the highway.

The Acura ended up rolling multiple times and came to rest on its side. During the crash, the male driver, as well as one male and one female passenger, were ejected from the car.

A second man was partially thrown from the car. The second female passenger, who was the only occupant wearing a seatbelt, was not ejected and received the fewest injuries, according to UHP.

Three of the occupants of the car were transported by medical helicopter due to the severity of their injuries, while two were taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Of the three transported by helicopter, two were in critical condition and one is suspected to be paralyzed, according to UHP.

Troopers are investigating speed and alcohol as factors in the single vehicle accident, UHP said.
