The Tooele County School Board is looking for a new member.

School board chairwoman Maresa Manzione read a letter of resignation from board member Matt Lawrence during the board’s Tuesday meeting. His resignation is effective June 1, 2016.

Lawrence has accepted an assignment from his employer that will require him to move out of state, according to his resignation letter. Lawrence is a seminary teacher for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was out of town for Tuesday’s meeting, but is expected to attend the May 10 school board meeting and participate in selecting his replacement, according to Manzione.

According to state code, the school board will appoint an interim board member to fill Lawrence’s seat. That person will serve until the end of December 2018, the end of Lawrence’s term.

Persons interested in replacing Lawrence on the school board must send a letter of interest to Maresa Manzione, Board President, Tooele County School District at 92 Lodestone Way in Tooele City. The letter must be received by 4 p.m. on May 6.

Candidates for the interim position must live in Tooele County School Board District 5, which includes Grantsville precincts 1:2, 2:1, 2:2, and 5; Stansbury Park precincts 4, 5, and 7; or Ibapah, Wendover and Lake Point precincts.

Candidates will be interviewed by the school board in an open board meeting on May 10, 2016.

“I have come to really enjoy working with the board and with Superintendent Rogers,” Lawrence said in his letter. “Everyone I have worked with have been so capable and willing to help me be successful in this position.”
