Grantsville boys edge Stallions at swim meet

Grantsville, Stansbury and Rowland Hall battled it out at the Pratt Aquatic Center on Thursday afternoon.

Grantsville ruled the men’s competition, while Stansbury swept the women’s action.

The Grantsville boys swim team swept Stansbury and Rowland Hall. Stansbury’s boys tied against Rowland Hall, while Stansbury’s girls team came out victorious against both Grantsville and Rowland Hall.

The Cowboys edged Stansbury 142-114 in men’s competition, and defeated Rowland Hall 145-109. Stansbury’s boys tied against Rowland Hall 113-113.

Stansbury’s women edged Grantsville 134-110, and defeated Rowland Hall 155-42. Grantsville’s women defeated Rowland Hall 156-42.

“I cant’ be more pleased with the way the kids swam today,” said Grantsville coach Chism Nash.

Stansbury’s boys won five of eight events, and the girls won six of eight events. But it was Grantsville’s depth that helped them win in boys competition.

“The bottom line is that we need more swimmers,” said Stansbury coach Dan Peterson “Although we are 5-3 with the girls and only 1-6-1 with the boys, I believe that we are getting better each meet.The girls only have one senior and she is also a first-year swimmer. The boys also only have one senior. Most of our swimmers have just started or are in their second year.”

 

Boys Competition

Grantsville won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:57.10. The team included Richard Jorgensen, Nathan Beckett, Tanner Higley and Todd Ritchey. Rowland Hall finished second. Stansbury’s team of Joe Davis, Garrett Hillman, Clark Conner and Josh Hinton placed third. In fourth place was the GHS team of Braden Soltese, Chris Kelley, Paul Blackhurst and Chantz LeFevere.

Stansbury’s Garrett Hillman finished first in the 200 IM. He edged Grantsville’s Higley by less than one-half second. Hillman touched at 2:14.93 with Higley coming in at 2:15.23. Stansbury’s Conner finished fourth.

Stansbury’s Josh Hinton won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.48. Grantsville’s Brandon Justice, Jorgensen, and LeFevre finished second through fourth, respectively.

Stansbury’s Hillman won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.63. Beckett of Grantsville placed second, and Chris Kelly of Grantsville placed third.

The Stallions’ Scott Jones finished first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:45.18. Grantsville’s Pierce Crosby finished second, Stansbury’s Daniel Christensen third and Grantsville’s Jarod Coles, fourth.

Higley won the 100 breaststroke for the Cowboys with a time of 1:06.92. Clark of Stansbury placed fourth.

The Stansbury 400-yard free relay team of Hillman, Clark, Hinton and Sonntag won the race in 1:00.37. Grantsville teams finished third, fourth and fifth.

Stansbury’s Sonntagg finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with teammate Gabe Mensinger fourth.

Grantsville’s Ritchey placed second in the 100 freestyle with Ritchey of Grantsville second, Hinton and Sonntagg of Stansbury third and fourth, respectively.

Grantsville teams placed second and third in the 200 yard relay with a Stanbury team fourth. Grantsville’s Jorgensen placed second in the 100-yard backstroke. Grantsville’s Clark placed fourth in the 100 breaststroke.

 

Girls Competition

Stansbury won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:14.73. Members of the team were Becki Clonts, Lydia Harrell, Kylee Herbert and Montana VonHatten. Grantsville teams placed second and third, while second Stansbury team came in fourth.

Grantsville’s Alice Vinciguerra won the 200 yard IM in 2:39.26 with Stansbury’s Becki Clonts second and Kylee Herbert third. Grantsville’s Jenika Higley placed fourth.

Stansbury’s Lydia Harrell won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.66 with teammate Montana VonHatten second. Grantsville’s Ericka Hughes placed third and Stansbury’s Katie Kleinman was fourth.

Vinciguerra won a second event with a win in the 100 yard butterfly. She clocked 1:06.22. Harrell placed second and Clonts fourth.

Kleinman won the 500 freestyle with a time of 7:45.35. Teammates Vicki Scoonover and Lizzie Burila placed second and third with Grantsville’s Kayla Orton fourth.

The Stansbury team of Harrell, Herbert, VanHatten and Clonts won the 200 yard relay with a time of 2:05.59. Grantsville finished second and third with Stansbury fourth.

Kimbri Herring won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:23.10. Hollie Hunsaker and Emily Cox of Grantsville finished second and third, respectively. Emily Cunningham of Stansbury came in fourth.

The Grantsville team of Kendra Favero, Emily Cox, Lindzie McBride and Ericka Hughes won the 400 free relay race in 5:33.58.

Stansbury’s Burila finished third in the 200 freestyle with Grantsville’s Orton fourth. Stansbury’s Herring and VonHatten were third and fourth in the 100 freestyle. Herbert finished second in the 100 breaststroke with Higley third and Soltes fourth.
