First grade students let Santa know their wishes

The Christmas wishes of approximately 1,000 first grade students in Tooele County can be found inside today’s edition of the Tooele Transcript-Bulletin.

Called the “Dear Santa Letter” project, the letters to Santa Claus were originally hand-written by students while in class. Next, each letter was type-set by Transcript-Bulletin staff with original spelling and grammar honored. To protect the identity of students, each letter is signed by first name only.

Each letter is unique, just like the child who wrote it. And each letter provides a delightful view into the hearts and minds of each little author who is just learning how to express thoughts onto paper.

The “Dear Santa Letter” project was made possible with the help of Scott Rogers, superintendent of Tooele County School District, and first-grade teachers throughout the district.

Every first grade class across the district (there are more than 50) was invited to write letters to Santa. Only Rose Springs Elementary did not participate.

The letters are printed in today’s Christmas Greetings Section, and required more than 1,000 column inches of space. The “Dear Santa Letter” project was created and facilitated by Dianna Bergen, an account executive with the Transcript-Bulletin.
