A Wendover man faces criminal charges after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a knife.

According to a probable cause statement, Bryant Lon Despain, 45, had been drinking when he and his long-time girlfriend began arguing over a computer.

Despain began to insult the woman and accused her of infidelity. She got up to leave, according to the statement, and Despain allegedly pulled her to the ground by her hair.

He grabbed a knife and allegedly put it to the woman’s neck, telling her he could cut her throat without anyone knowing, according to the statement. The woman got up and started walking to the door. Despain pushed her to the wall, according to the statement, but the woman was able to leave the house.

When a deputy from the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office responded, he could smell alcohol on Despain’s breath and Despain told him he had been drinking, according to the statement.

Despain was charged with aggravated assault, a third-degree felony, and intoxication, a class C misdemeanor. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in 3rd District Court on Tuesday.
