Our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gleness Cooper, passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Gleness was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Preston, Idaho, the second child of Orvil L. Ames and Floretta Nelson Ames. She grew up in Bacchus, Utah, and graduated from Cyprus High School. She married her sweetheart, Howard Eugene Cooper, on Jan. 15, 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on Dec. 1, 1964. Howard passed away on March 2, 2000. Gleness was a kind and loving mother and grandmother whose home was open to all. During her life, she was involved in many civic and church organizations. She retired from Tooele County School District where she was the lead secretary at Tooele High School for many years. She was involved in the Tooele City Women’s Fireman’s Auxiliary. She served as a temple worker at the Salt Lake Temple. Gleness lived an active and adventurous life. She was a marksman pistol shooter, winning many awards; loved golfing, bowling and playing bridge. Traveling the world was one of her greatest passions. Whether it be fishing on Island Park Reservoir, visiting Russia or Japan or spending the winters in Arizona, she was always looking for an adventure. An example of this was in August 2014 when, at the age of 87, she parachuted out of an airplane at 18,000 feet. Gleness is survived by her four children: Connie (John) Seamons, Willard, Utah; Larry (Sophie), Salt Lake City; Jeffrey (Brenda), Tooele; Lori (Mike) Adams, Cedar Fort; and her faithful little dog, Sassy; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; sisters Dorothy Barnard, Imogene Bevan and Betty Ames. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at the Middle Canyon Ward, 1100 Skyline Drive, Tooele, Utah. Friends may visit family Friday, Jan. 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main Street, Tooele, Utah and Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment at Lehi Cemetery at 3 p.m.
