The Tooele City Council voted Wednesday to approve the annexation of an additional 10.31 acres into the North Tooele Special Service District.
The property is Phase 6 of Sunset Estates, located west of Mountain West Medical Center and off 2000 North, said Seana Westerman, the sales agent for the development.
“We’re just north of Overlake, but we’re not part of Overlake,” she said.
Tooele City Attorney Roger Baker said the NTSSD was created to maintain some special features of the Overlake development such as parks, street lights, street signs, and special landscaping at a roundabout on 2000 North. Maintenance is funded by a district tax.
In 2003, the city council approved an annexation of 30.69 acres, which comprised portions of Sunset Estates. In January 2015, the council approved an additional 5.42 acres into the NTSSD. Most recently, Hallmark Homes petitioned to annex Phase 6 of Sunset Estates.
The city council passed Resolution 2015-36 with a 5-0 vote on Wednesday. Baker said a public hearing is not required for the annexation. He has already informed the developer what documents are required to finish the annexation process.
“There is no more public processing. We’re just getting the documents in order,” he said. “When you’re just changing the boundaries of a special service district, it’s pretty straightforward.”
