A local businessman will try and break his own record for the largest one-day, one-place food drive this weekend.

Danny Marz, owner of Pit Stop Carwash and Pit Stop Coffee Shop & More, will hold his third annual Rockin’ Northern Utah concert and food drive on Saturday.

“Last year we collected 10,000 pounds of food for the Tooele Food Bank,” he said. “That’s the largest amount of food collected at one location in one day in Utah.”

This year Marz has invited the public to be a part of history and break last year’s record as he attempts to collect over 11,000 pounds of food in one day.

The food drive features an outdoor rock concert from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. The admission is a bag of non-perishable food.

The concert features John Waite, an English-born rock musician. Waite was the bassist and lead vocalist for the group The Babys.

He recorded “Isn’t it Time,” and “Every Time I Think of You,” with the Babys.

Waite went on to record as a solo artist after the Babys broke up.

In 1984 Waite’s “Missing You,” reached number one on the Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles. His follow-up single, “Tears” was a top-10 hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts.

Several unnamed Utah-based bands will also play at the concert, Marz said.

While the admission price is one bag of food, the family price is one “large” bag of food, according to Marz.

“If people will think about it they can spend what they would have spent for a concert ticket on food for the food bank,” he said. “We’re doing this to help out our local food bank that really needs help right now to take care of people in our community.”

The concert will be held at the Pit Stop Car Wash and Pit Stop Coffee Shop & More at 2276 N. 400 East. The location is just east of SR-36 on the north end of Tooele City.

Marz encourages concert goers to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

Along with the music, Marz has arranged for on-site food service from Tony’s Smoke Shack, an Erda-based purveyor of pulled pork, ribs and other smoky food products; Vista Linda Mexican Restaurant in Tooele; and Ed Hansen’s hamburgers and hot dogs. Shaved ice will be available, Marz said.

A fenced-off private beer garden will also be available at the concert, according to Marz.

Sponsors for this year’s Rockin’ Northern Utah concert and food drive are EnergySolutions, Tooele County, Tooele County Health Department, Les Schwab Tires, Mountain America Credit Union, and Grantsville City.

“We just want to bring local companies together, feed our neighbors, and have fun,” Marz said. “Everybody come on out and be part of making history in Utah.”
